Richard Henry Lee Autograph Note Signed re: Back Rent payable in Tobacco from a Widow (from Malcolm Forbes Collection)

This is a very interesting and unique letter from a Signer of the Declaration of Independence, Richard HJenry Lee, to a widow, Mrs. George Hull to pay back rent to the Sheriff 932 Pounds of Tobacco due from last year.

On verso is an autograph note Lee Pitman, Deputy Sheriff recording the widow Hull's partial payment of 721 pounds of tobacco.  Lee in turn notes that there are 211 pounds still "due on this order."

Excellent Provenance -Part of Malcolm Forbes Collection of Historical Documents sold May 22, 2007 Christies, New York Original Christies Invoice, Catalog and containers.
