1676 Speed Map of Virginia and Maryland

A sought after map of Maryland and Virginia which was printed in English (London) during the tragic Bacon's Rebellion in Virginia.

The English text verso, describing the colonies of Maryland and Virginia, adds to the appeal of this important and decorative map.  Oriented with the north to the right, the map shows both the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays and Part of New Jersey.  The boundary between Virginia and Maryland on the eastern shore, settled in 1688, is clear and evident. The map is beautifully decorated with the Royal Arms of England and a large
elegant title cartouche

A striking impression with attractive color on watermarked paper and light show-through of text on verso. There is minor soiling along the centerfold and to the right of the title cartouche. A lovely example.
