Robert Morris signed this North American Land stock certificate in 1795. Morris financed the American Revolution. He also signed the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution and Articles of Confederation.
Morris invested in trans-Appalachian lands. When Morris’ vast financial empire collapsed from land speculation, he became bankrupt and was sent to debtor’s prison. He, Albert Gallatin and Alexander Hamilton were the founders of the financial system of the United States. Morris was one of only six individuals to signed the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution and Articles of Confederation.
